Season of the Subpoena
I regret — I deeply regret — that the secretary of state is giving us no choice but to proceed with a subpoena.
Representative Henry Waxman is a classy guy. Not only is he a bulldog in the committee room, but he expressed sorrow as he issued a subpoena calling Secretary Rice to testify about the false claims of Iraq seeking uranium from Niger.
See, less classy people would just be giddy at the news that finally someone can wipe the smirks off the faces of Bush Administration officials. But not Waxman.
As for me -- I don't regret...nor am I giddy...I'm just happy to see checks and balances working again. Like the legitimacy of the veto fight, sending a subpoena to a stubborn Secretary is a healthy part of the democratic process.
But speaking of less classy people...in the same article, The Times mentions that Waxman is also demanding the emails that White House officials sent over RNC networks. The RNC chair's response:
You don’t see the New York Yankees giving the Boston Red Sox their signs before a crucial series — and I won’t be giving our equivalent to Howard Dean.
I'm glad that this is all just a game to him. He could take a lesson in sportsmanship from Representative Henry Waxman.
