Deja Vu All Over Again in Kansas
How many times do we have to hear the Bush Administration say it is not their fault?
Today, 80 blocks of Greensburg, Kansas sit destroyed by a forceful tornado. Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, widely acknowledged as one of the best governors in the country, warned months ago that sending more of the Kansas National Guard to Iraq, along with their heavy equipment, would put Kansans at real risk. A local news broadcast covered the concern.
From the very beginning, the Bush Administration has denied that the invasion and occupation of Iraq has had costs that are real. The dollar costs - hundreds of billions - have never been put into the Federal budget or included in their projections of future deficits. The human costs cannot be shown on television. Mr. Bush cannot attend memorial services. And the extraordinary deployment of the National Guard, often against the wishes of governors, does not affect our ability to respond to natural disasters like Katrina or the Greensburg tornado. This morning, Mr. Bush is visiting Greensburg for a first hand look. He should bring the Kansas National Guard with him.
Here at Working Assets, we cannot reverse the tornado. But we can make life just a tiny bit easier for our customers affected by the disaster. Effective immediately, we are our offering our wireless and long distance customers free calls into and out of the devastated town and surrounding Kiowa County. The emergency relief will last for a month.
As a company, we try to stop disastrous federal policies when we can, and comfort the afflicted when that does not work.
