    From Comedian to Candidate

One of the fun aspects of Al Franken's run for Senate in Minnesota is that he hasn't lost his sense of humor.

When I'm in the Senate, I'll push for public financing of elections. But in the meantime, I have to go call a guy in Wayzata who's got some kind of hedge fund or something.

Franken's column in The Huffington Post this morning is actually about the need for public financing of elections. He talks of the amount of time he needs to spend raising money rather than meeting constituents and policy experts. And to hear someone whose life has been in media talking about how politics is too money-driven, you know it must be a problem.

Mostly, though, the column still reads like a humor piece -- with a serious point, yes, but also with Franken's steady sarcasm that made him a favorite on SNL, Air America and in print.

Watching a comedian run for Senate will just be fun.
