How Far Can One Million Dollars Go?
Voter registration is not glamorous work. In the field, organizers fan out across the country at supermarket parking lots, sidewalk corners, and community fairs battling everything from bad weather to apathy, to reach out to people who haven’t gotten on the rolls. Today, Working Assets is rolling out a major donation drive to raise money for non-partisan, voter-registration efforts.
You can help. we’ve partnered with two outstanding nonprofit groups, Women’s Voices. Women Vote and Project Vote, to register new voters and drive people to the polls. All contributions are matched 100%, up to $500,000. To contribute, go to WorkingAssets.com/onemillion. Working Assets customers will also be able to round up their August bill payments and that extra, tax-deductible amount will be matched and donated to the same fund. (Not a customer? Join now.)
And we'll need every cent for the work ahead. . .
Take single women. According to WVWV, there are currently 15 million unregistered single females in the United States. And without a vote, these women have no voice in policies that affect them the most, like equal pay and reproductive rights. You can check out the piece from Women’s eNews about just this problem 87 years after women got the vote. For more information about our fund, go to WorkingAssets.com/onemillion. How far can one million dollars go? We're hoping all the way to the 2008 elections.
