Governor Schwarzenegger Stops Californians from Voting to Bring the Troops Home

Will Congress ever bring our troops home from Iraq? This week's testimony doesn't make me confident that Congress will act quickly. Our troops deserve a rest. Since Congress won't stand up for the troops and demand that they be brought home by Christmas, Senator Perata in California introduced legislation to let the voters decide during the Presidential Primary on February 5. Unfortunately, Californians will not get the opportunity to vote to withdraw the troops. Last night -- a few minutes before midnight -- Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed the Iraq Withdrawal Initiative.

We must keep fighting for our troops. Every week there is some action we can do to stop the war in Iraq. With 2008 right around the corner we must keep up the pressure on Congress, but especially on candidates running for President. We have only 495 more days before we can evict President Bush from the White House, but the problems of the Iraq war won't end when he is sent packing. Keep up the pressure on your Congressional members, and if you live in California call Governor Schwarzenegger at 916-445-2841 today and tell him that you will remember this veto when he runs for Senate. Don't forget, if you are Working Assets customer, the call is free.
