Happy New Year
Posting will be a little lighter today, as some of us celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. (Yes, feel free to argue about the appropriate spelling...wait until we get to (C)Han(n)uk(k)a(h)...)
The Rabbi last night gave an understated sermon. Usually not one to suppress his opinions, and firmly on the side of social justice and a progressive vision for our world, he may be saving his full frustration with the Bush foreign policy, spineless Democratic Congress and senseless Iraq War (my words, not his...although he shares the sentiment) for the larger attendance of morning service's or the atonement of Yom Kippur.
But he did talk about the value of community -- a home you can continue to come back to. He spoke of the synagogue as that home for him, but used the same language that I would use in discussing Drinking Liberally, someone else might employ to describe their peace activist meetup, and others apply to their blogs.
He said that creating those communities is one of our most important tasks. I couldn't agree more.
Please debate on these pages of Working Assets. Share your ideas. With us, contribute to important causes and take actions for a progressive future. We want to be one of those communities in your life, and what better way to welcome the New Year than to say you are all welcome at Working Assets.
