Healthcare for Children
Congress showed us some spine: they passed SCHIP again, defying the almost inevitable threat of a veto.
It's not about changing the President's mind. It's about keeping the issue on the radar of the American public long enough to change the minds of members of Congress who could switch their votes and support an override.
In the days following the President's last veto, Dems and Republicans began to see the light, as they felt pressure from their constituents to support such a good bill. We'll see that pressure continue. We may never change the President's attitude toward providing healthcare for children, but we may shift the power dynamic soon regarding who gets to make that decision.
Discussion
Bush said the other day that he would like to see Cuba become a country where the people make the decisions. I couldn't help but think that just might work in the USA as well. The people could be the deciders! We could have health care for children. we could get out of wars we didn't want to be in. We could have a constatutional democracy where we were free from unwarented govt. intrusion......... MAKE THE SOB VETO IT A THOUSAND TIMES UNTIL WE THE PEOPLE GET OUR WAY!
We may as well keep sending it back time after time instead of debating who to cencure for calling names.
