If At First You Don't Succeed...
Nancy Pelosi is going to return to the fight for children's health -- according to Think Progress, SCHIP will be reintroduced tomorrow.
It's good for progressives to be willing to go down fighting. What has frustrated so many of us is the appearance that our leaders in both Houses are so averse to a fight that they let the threat of a filibuster kill progress...without forcing their opponents to actually stand and filibuster. Or that we've been so timid about the President's veto that we haven't pushed effectively to end the war.
But now and then, we have seen a good idea pass through -- and get vetoed. Good for Pelosi and the bipartisan support she has to push to override...and, when that failed, to stick to their principles and try again.
At least if we lose, we will have been standing for something.
Working Assets has asked you to take action on this issue, and we've put our money (and the money of our members) where our collective mouth is: supporting the work of Families USA and other organizations that care about a more compassionate, healthier America.
And don't just take it from us. Hear what the kids have to say, courtesy of the Campaign for America's Future.
