Will the Republican Party Condemn Its Shock Troops?
Every so slowly, the news is leaking out into the mainstream press that the organized efforts to physically intimidate members of Congress in favor of health care reform are close to thuggery, with elements of the nativist gun toting crowds that got really excited standing in line waiting for Palin to talk about palling around with terrorists. The crowd that called for Chris Dodd, ill with prostate cancer, to die, and now the crowd that contains someone who threatened the life of Rep. Brad Miller.
I have to wonder when the talking heads of punditry are going to ask the Republican leadership to condemn this behavior.
How about tonight?
Discussion
How about... never? There is nothing to condemn just because Democrats and liberals have decided that since no one could possibly oppose their monstrously foolish schemes, all the normal citizens shouting and mocking during meetings must be Republican thugs. You folks are something else... the American people start shoving back and your response it to sneer about "mobs" and "thugs". I've got a news flash for you: this isn't 1930, y'all aren't Stalin, and we're not the kulaks.
There you go again Keith, Attack and name calling. I hope this is not what the normal citizen has degenerated to.
"Name-calling"? I realize that you desperately want to pidgeon-hole me somehow but if you're going to accuse me of calling you names, it's helpful if I've actually done so. I refer to y'all as "you folks" and refer to the Democrats as "Democrats and liberals". Unless in your narrow little mind, making a historical comparison in the negative (saying that you AREN'T Stalin) is "name-calling", you lack a leg to stand on (as usual).
As to the "attack" hogwash, referring to the fact that y'all are characterizing normal citizens as "mobs" and "thugs" is simply stating a fact that happens to (appropriately) case you in a negative light. Sorry if the truth is so painful for you but cry me a river; the truth is what the truth is.
Next time, pretend that you have to have a basis for your accusations before making them.
I have a question about my calls being blocked by the law while I was a Credo Mobile customer. Why isn't Credo doing anything about the tampering. 580821ACAB 580225TAXI The video is unreal and I would like a response.
I can't say I support the tone of the message, to ask the the republicans to do anything at all, especially something they are accused of for which there is a serious lack of hard proof.
It would seem that this is a republican organized anti health care program... certainly, the notions of what's in the plan that would worry people, that's from republicans, but hey, that's fair game, really. it's called exaggeration. big time. And the dems have done a totally lousy job refuting it.
It would seem to be trivial investigative reporting to get some inside scoop on GOP organization that is pushing the disruption, the tactics... but there is zero news on that. zero. and note here, in the blog. So, no support for the accusations.
Besides, republicans kind of act that way... remember florida in 2000? remember goldwater on extremism.
the gop doesn't want health insurance reform and they are hell bent on getting their way. i just hope theirs in not a winning strategy.
These people are beyond the influence of the Republican Party to reign in. These people are under the influence of Ultra-Conservative/Conspiracy talk shows and journals. They are the result of a dishonest government that as been that way for decades. The Republicans have a tiger on a leash that is just as apt to attack them as the Democrats. What we need is honesty in Washington DC, perhaps starting with kicking out the lobbyists. The working people don't have a chance to have a voice, with all the money being thrown around. Campaign finance reform comes to mind as another way to give "We the People" back our voice. We also need a cooling off period nationwide, with all the diverse groups that are nearly at each others throats finding a common theme upon which all can agree, and then work from there. We have all been lied to; misled, and not by just "W"! We can go back at least 60 years, and then some. Sooner or later we are going to have to face the truth about our country; that we are no better than any other when it comes to international fair play and honesty. We are as crooked as the rest! We need Reconciliation nationwide, like happened in South Africa. We need to open up the REAL history books and face our own dark natures. WE NEED TO DO THIS! I don't own a gun, and hate the idea of having to go out and buy one to protect myself against somebody who thinks I'm unAmerican.
I'm trying to figure out what you're saying, GBerke. On one hand, you admit that there is no evidence that the Republicans are doing what they're accused of. On the other hand, you say that they're known for it and hope that what they're doing (which you admit is just wild speculation without evidence) doesn't win them anything.
On the second part, though... where do you get your notions, exactly? In a hundred more years, the Republicans couldn't approach the riots that Democrat-aligned groups go for. Thuggery and mobbing is a Democrat specialty.
Hey John... I've got a screwdriver in case you ever want to tighten all those loose screws of yours.
Hey Keith, guess what, we're all Americans here, and I'd like to know your definition of "normal American". Why don't you stop the labeling, and say what you think? I'm interested in what you think would be "good" for America. What do you think is proper conduct at a town hall meeting; a rally; a protest; a lynching. I don't know what/who you think you are. You seem to be a critic with no stand of your own. I think this country has become an international clown at whom everyone is afraid to laugh. I think that this country's behavior of the last 8 years has been an embarassment to all humanity, and if one thinks that the behavior of the teabaggers is typically american, then they live in "bizarro Amerika", not the America that I was taught it was. I welcome you to tighten my screws.
Normal, average, typical... pick your synonym.
Perhaps, John, you are not conversant with conversational English. In just this thread alone, I have said what I think in several distinct ways; it's not worth my time documenting them if you are unable to discern them for yourself.
My list of things that would be good for America is extremely long and comprehensive, encompassing everything from a realist noninterventionalist foreign policy to a considerable diminishing of government spending and power. I might even share it sometime with you, assuming I am convinced that you would be able to make sense of it.
I believe that I am rational and thus far, I am proved correct. :)
And I think that you need to give my regards to the March Hare and the Mad Hatter because John, your side of the looking glass doesn't quite resemble the real world.
You can tighten your own screws, John, should you wish to.
Returning to the original question, if the outspoken ones at the meetings were able to be controlled by the Republican Party, why would they? At this point it seems that the Republican agenda is being met, mainly because of the "grassroots" movement active at this time. What I see here is a wake up call to all who think that Amerika has moved forward from the 1950's. Hate groups, McCarthyism, and Nationalism is alive and well in these United States. Our country is ready to take on, and take care of the world in the name of Imperialism, but not take care of its own because of the name of Socialism. We won't take care of those in need of health care, but have no problem allowing Remote Area Medical's charity throughout the U.S. and most recently in one of our largest cities, Los Angeles. The man in charge of R.A.M. himself said that his outfit should be in Equador, Guatemala, Honduras, or other third world areas, not in one of the most developed nations in the world. Since this topic is linked to healthcare by what those "citizens" were protesting, that and whether or not Obama is a citizen, or whether or not this government is a democracy or a republic, or whether or not Obama is Hitler, etc. see, I can't even make a point directly; this issue is so convoluted. Really, who gives a shit what the Republicans or their ilk are going to do. The democratic majority needs to just grow some balls and pass what the majority of THEIR party wants, while they still can! They will be out of power soon and God knows that the Republicans will do WHATEVER they want when they are back in!
Well, see, that's the real trick, isn't it? How do you control people who were never under your control in the first place?
Well, see, America HAS moved forward. It's just that certain Americans (such as you) refuse to believe it.
I'm not sure why R.A.M. isn't in those places, seeing as how they are not needed here.
The Democratic majority is rightly afraid of what might happen if they ignore the voters and do whatever they want. The Republicans are generally too cowardly to ram an agenda through so that is not a real concern.
It seems that you and I are the only ones still kicking this horse. While R.A.M might not be needed here, wherever they show up thousands line up. As far as the Dems and the Reps, I think the voters who brought in majorities in both houses and a Dem in the Whitehouse ARE being ignored! I have voted Dem all my life, but if a viable candidate were to run Independent, I would give them my vote. I don't mean a Nader, Perot, or LaRouche. The only way that I see that America has moved ahead is that they have "supersized" it!. Bigger, but not better. So far, except for the Cap and Trade legislation, it seems like an extension of the Bush years. I know this has nothing to do with reigning in any teabaggers or whatever, but they don't seem to put much new on this blog site.
