I was too sarcastic in my last comment on Mr. Tomorrow's last publication on the subject of war crimes. As of yet this is still America and therefore with due gravity...

Now it is coming out that using torture to get information to protect the nation was yet another level of lie. The war crime of torture was used in an attempt to get false confessions about Iraq/Al Q. connections and about the W, the M and the D; both apparently nonexistent. Clearer now is that behind this war crime of torture lays an after the fact attempt to cover up the war crime of planing and waging a war of aggression by fabricating false confessions under torture. Students of history will recongnise this "planing and waging a war of agression" for it was, in fact, exactly a charge brought in the Nuremberg Trials and procecuted sucessfully. Thanks go to Mr. Newman for pointing this out in his presentation "The History of Oil."

One must entertain the supposition that the pattern of lies and fabrications is a poison that eats thought even to the events which sent us down this unfortunate path in the first place. Worse than being a people who well may suffer the consequences of these contemptible deeds would be to become a people who have come to tolerate and rationalized them.

And to be in this case appropriately preemptive: if one was moved to say that this might be dismissed as business as usual it would not say much about one's character and ethics, would it? ...let alone one's vision of and faith in their country and society. Today is, after all, the first day of forever.
