Sociopath of the Week: Joe Klein

The Sociopath of the Week award goes to those in the media and political world who best exemplifies the lunacy of a deranged sociopath. That is, those "whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience." This week's award goes to Time Magazine columnist Joe Klein. Writing in this week's magazine, he says now "it is, indeed, a moment of truth in Iraq" and that the surge "may well be the last major U.S-led offensive of the war." He says this is "Operation Last Chance." But as Duncan Black shows, this is the same Joe Klein who last year criticized antiwar Democrats, saying "they will have to give yet another new Iraqi government one last shot to succeed" for the six months. Now its a year later, and - like a sociopath living in his own demented fantasy world - he's expecting everyone to simply forget his "one last shot to succeed" comments from a year ago, now saying we need yet another "last chance" and have to wait yet more time to start ending the war.

Klein's sociopathic tendencies are well-documented. He is the guy who earlier this year claimed to have led the antiwar movement since 2002 - expecting no one to notice that on the eve of war he appeared on national television to say invading Iraq was the right decision. He's also the guy who dishonestly changed around chronologies to fabricate a storyline that never happened - all so he could attack progressives.

Congratulations to Joe Klein for exemplifying the most sociopathic behavior in the political/media world this week. Sitting in a comfortable office telling American troops in harms way they have to wait another year before coming home after last year telling them they only had to wait a year is exactly the kind of deranged lunacy that attracts this prestigious award.

(P.S. For those wondering why Ann Coulter did not receive the award this week after saying she hopes John Edwards is killed in a terrorist attack, I have deemed Coulter ineligible for this award because her insanity is well beyond mere sociopathic levels)
