The Republicans of Colorado deserve those oil well drilling rigs right where Bush wants to shove them..

    Know what I mean..?

Now is the time for Democrats to capitalize and go on the offensive in that area by pushing for geothermal, solar, wind, hemp, etc ... as they all can replace petroleum, coal, and nuclear.

The die-hard Republicans in the western states have been learning first hand what the Republican agenda really is, and that they're on the short end of the stick.
I would not call this a "liberal" movement. Liberals with their short-sighted urban notions have nothing to do with this.
This is a populist movement led by "gun-toting" populist Democrats who are ignoring the DNC/DLC misguidance and talking directly to the people about the issues that people, not "liberals", and not K-street feel are important.
These are people who are connected to the land, whether we be ranchers or town dwellers, and we are seeing that the land is being destroyed.
You might call us "Roosevelt" democrats, not just because FDR was the People's hero of the Depression, but because Teddy was the hero of the West and it's land, and the Republicans have turned their backs on the very values that one of their presidents held dear.
That sound you hear is TR spinning in his grave.
No wonder he tried starting his own political party.

Butte, that is interesting that gun-toting Democrats actually exist in the midwest. Out here in South Carolina especially Spartanburg, I have yet to find a single gun toter who will even want to hear the word Democrat let alone consider even voting for one.

P.S.: I'd love to see what happens when the GOP in my state puts oil rigs in both white GOP neighborhoods and even in black neighborhoods. Unfortunately, like Louisiana, it'll go racial in my state. Then again, the black caucus in my state has yet to touch on the environmental issues or even go populist given the hostile takeover of that caucus by the fake "centrists" and corporate shenanigans.

P.S.: Alex Sanders back in 2002 tried to associate hunting with cracking down on the ENRONs and the MCIWorldcoms but Lindsey Graham won anyway. He was silent on the issue of gun rights and he was easily smeared as "elitist" because he was a college president running for senator so that pretty much might have crippled his chances from the start.

FJ, Alex Sanders being a college president would have likely raked in plenty of corporate cash long before he would even bother to run for a Senate seat. From what I heard back in 2002, he promised to be a "conservative" Democrat and already lost half the race even before it began. It's too bad your state Democratic party never bothers to run real Democrats who would otherwise kick Strom's ass for selling the state out throughout his entire tenure.

Frederick Johnson: Hate to tell you, but the Midwest is a bit east of here. I can look out of my front door and see the Continental Divide, which runs along the East Ridge here. :-D
Most of the gas and oil wells in this part of the country ARE in Republican strongholds, and we have third and fourth generation ranchers who are having their livelihoods destroyed thanks to oil and gas well pollution.
The Bush administration has done a lot to help the Democratic party out here.
Of course having that wannabe Tex-ass drugstore cowboy giving all the REAL cowboys up here a bad name isn't hurting either.

BTW, if you want to see the East Ridge, take a gander at the photo with the article. I do believe that's one of our Butte headframes with the East Ridge in the background.

Butte, the only thing I ever visited in the midwest was Wyoming, where my mother's sister used to live, up to my teenage years. After her husband died, she moved to Dallas, TX and never moved out since she couldn't resist the somewhat good job offers paying her well enough to pay off the debts, some of which were hers and the rest her deceased husbands. Her husband's brother wanted to help her out and wanted to help her get back to enjoying the midwest but she refused to go back. Maybe the midwest wasn't the same for her after she lost her husband. If I can be lucky to accumulate just enough vacation hours from my current job, I just might get enough time to take a tour out in the midwest, hopefully before the last of the pristine lands go bye-bye with all the excessive oil wells and nuclear waste dump.
